Sort lines of text alphabetically A–Z or Z–A, in natural order (Item 2 before Item 10), numerically, by length, or shuffle. Ignore leading A/An/The, remove duplicates, and copy results instantly—100% privately in your browser.
Unicode-aware alphabetical, natural, numeric, and length-based line sorter
Sort Lines / Alphabetize puts any line-based list into clean order—whether you are organizing names, bibliographies, keywords, filenames, version numbers, or log entries. Powered by Unicode-aware Intl.Collator comparisons, it supports dictionary A–Z and Z–A sorting, human-friendly natural sorting, signed numeric sorting, line-length ordering, list reversal, and Fisher–Yates randomization—all locally in your browser.
4 simple steps to organize any list
Paste one item per line into the Input List box, upload a .txt file, or import from a URL.
Choose Alphabetical A → Z, Natural Order for numbered items, Numeric, Shortest / Longest, Reverse, or Shuffle.
Toggle case sensitivity, ignore leading articles (A, An, The), ignore punctuation, or strip duplicates and blanks.
Copy the sorted output with one click or download sorted-lines.txt.
Choosing the right mode when lists contain numbers
Choosing the right mode prevents common ordering mistakes when lists contain numbers:
Compares strings character by character using locale collation. Accented letters like Éclair group with E, and Item 10 sorts before Item 2.
Treats multi-digit runs inside text as whole numbers so Item 1, Item 2, Item 10, Item 20 appear in human-expected order. Best for filenames, chapters, and SKUs.
Parses each line as a mathematical number—including negative values (-12.5) and decimals (3.14). Non-numeric lines sort stably after numbers.
Non-destructive comparison keys and stable sorting guarantees
Enabling Ignore leading spaces, Ignore leading 'A / An / The', or Ignore punctuation only affects how two lines are compared—your original text, indentation, and full titles remain untouched in the output.
When two lines compare as equal (for example, 'Apple' and 'apple' in case-insensitive mode), their original relative order is preserved.
Duplicates are retained by default. Blank lines are grouped cleanly at the bottom unless you enable Remove blank lines.
