A Zalgo text generator (also known as a glitch text generator or cursed text generator) transforms ordinary readable words into vertically distorted, static-filled strings that appear to bleed above, through, and below the line of text. Originally popularized by internet creepypasta memes (“He Comes”) and cyberpunk digital art, Zalgo text works without custom fonts or images—everything is built from standard Unicode characters that you can copy and paste anywhere online.
Under the hood, the generator pairs each visible base character with a curated stack of Unicode Combining Diacritical Marks (U+0300–U+036F and U+0488–U+0489). Because Unicode allows multiple combining accents, overlines, strikethrough slashes, and under-hooks to attach to the same base letter, stacking them creates vertical towers above the baseline and hanging roots beneath it.
The iconic creepypasta distortion. Balances upper hooks, middle tilde/bar slashes, and lower roots across U+0300–U+035C for dramatic vertical overflow.
Designed for maximum readability and strict character budgets. Applies crisp horizontal/diagonal middle overlays plus 1–2 subtle ticks above or below—ideal for Discord display names and X bios.
Focuses on geometric digital interference: double overlines, vertical line ticks, and under-brackets that mimic CRT scanline tearing and signal loss.
Uses medieval superscript combining letters (U+0363–U+036F), Cyrillic enclosing rings (U+0488–U+0489), and deep hanging roots for an eldritch manuscript look.
Combines asymmetric glitch marks with occasional terminal lookalike substitutions (Λ, Ξ, Ø, §) to simulate a corrupted memory dump or sci-fi HUD alert.
Instantly strips stacked Zalgo and glitch combining marks from unreadable text while keeping your original letters, precomposed accents (like é or ñ), and emojis intact.
Because every combining mark is a separate Unicode code point, social apps count each mark toward your total character limit. A 15-character phrase at High intensity can easily expand to 200+ Unicode characters. Keep these platform guidelines in mind:
| Platform | Recommended Style | Character Budget Note |
|---|---|---|
| Discord Messages & Status | Classic Zalgo (Low–High) or Cursed Text | 2,000-character message limit; renders tall vertical stacks cleanly on desktop and mobile. |
| X (Twitter) Posts & Bios | Glitch Light or Classic Zalgo (Low) | 280-character post limit (160 for bios); low intensity keeps mark counts compact. |
| Instagram Bios & Captions | Glitch Light (Low–Medium) | 150-character bio limit; pair with our Instagram Line Break Generator for clean caption spacing. |
| Gaming Tags (Steam, Roblox) | Glitch Light (Middle only) | Strict 16–32 char display name caps; disabling Above/Below marks saves characters. |
